About two years ago, you would have had to drag me kicking and screaming to the gym. Now, I am bummed on days I can’t make to my box. I competed in my first Crossfit competition last month and am signed up for two more in the coming months. There’s no way I would have made such a turnaround and come this far if it weren’t for the most amazing coaches! The Programming: When I first started training with Dave, I had never heard of crossfit. All I knew was that the workouts were fun and always different. I’ve been training with these guys for about a year and a half now (4-5 times a week), and other than benchmark workouts, I haven’t done the same workout twice. That’s pretty typical for Crossfit, but overall the programming is great and I’m always excited for the day’s WOD. The Coaches: The coaches push you to go as hard as you can go, and to get better every time. They encourage and motivate you to do things you are not as good at or don’t like as much, and they help you push your limits on the things you’re stronger at. Within three months I went from relying heavily on a band to do pull-ups to being in the top 5 girls with the most reps of unassisted pull-ups. I PR something every week. This is partly because I am getting better and stronger, but a lot of the credit goes to the coaches who give you guidance on form and technique, and tips and tricks to get that extra rep, pound, etc. These guys (and girl) are so good at what they do, they know what they are talking about, and they are passionate and enthusiastic about it too. They are all Crossfit certified, and constantly furthering their knowledge by going to certifications, trainings, and seminars. The Gym: The box itself is great too – all new equipment, super clean, and lots of space whether you are doing the WOD, working on your own thing, stretching, or just hanging out. The Intangibles: This box is its own community. If anyone finishes a WOD quickly, they’ll encourage and cheer for those still working. New members get a warm welcome and lots of encouragement from everyone. I have made so many friends here, which, for me, would never happen at any other kind of gym. If I take a day off or go to a different class time, the next day people ask where I was or what happened. These people become your friends and they hold you accountable, motivate, and inspire you. The coaches and athletes make this place what it is, and it wouldn’t be as awesome if it weren’t for such great people. If you are looking for a place where you can get in and get out without being noticed, this isn’t the place for you. But if you are looking for a place where you can meet some really great people, push your limits every day, and get in the best shape of your life, come check it out. You won’t regret it!!
